捕夢 Catching Dreams

Myths are dreams; they are dreams that journey through mountains, oceans, and different populations and environments. For thousands of years, people exaggerated the contents and added new elements to the myths, passing down myths orally which acclimates to societies. Myths have been given modern meanings and continuously transformed. Knowledge and characteristics of different nations are inherent in the myths that are still roaming the streets now, and often share similar internal values with one another. We are still able to get to know others through these dreams, exchanging ancient wisdom and the desires lying within the bottom of people’s hearts. Dreams, also serve as mediums for tribal sorcerers and shamans to communicate with spiritual entities. Dreams or myths shared between people and the land lay close to the universe. To dream is to connect one’s external and internal needs, and to tell dreams is to pass down the wisdom of life.

However, in both Taiwan and Brazil, some dreams and myths were not allowed to be publicly spoken throughout different eras. Luckily, people did not stop telling tales and fought with their lives to preserve these dreams. Therefore, we still have myths to listen to, we still have dreams to share.

By using the well-known and indescribable myths and dreams, Catching Dreams explores the similarities and differences between ethnic groups, implying the right to speech affected by politics and histories.

神話是夢。一個個夢經過山、經過海、經過不同的人群與環境，被人們千古以來口耳相傳，加了油、添了醋，適應各個時空的社會性，被賦予現代的意義，它們有核心而無邊界，持續變形中。被傳頌至今的神話，包裹著不同⺠族的特質與智慧，總有相似的象徵與內在價值。今日的我們，仍然得以透過這些夢，更加認識彼此，交換古老的智慧，與我們底層的渴望。夢，也是原住⺠巫師、薩滿與神靈溝通的媒介，療癒的通道。夢與天地宇宙相依偎，神話是人類與土地共同的夢。作夢，是連接外在與內在的需要；說夢，是讓生命的智慧能夠傳遞下去。

然而無論在台灣或是巴⻄，有些⺠族的夢與神話，在各個時代裡，被以不同方式禁止公開表述，禁止作夢。所幸，人們是不會停止說故事的，也有許多人以命相搏地在保留這些夢。所以到現在，我們還有神話可以聽，有夢可以分享。

〈捕夢〉以被廣泛流傳的、不能言說的夢與神話，探究種族之間的共通性、差異性，隱喻政治與歷史影響下的話語權。
